Her passion and compassion extend beyond hygiene products. Giving Hope and Help is striving to make its mark. The Education is Your Passport Scholarship Program was established to benefit low income college-bound high school seniors. Recipients are awarded a brand new laptop computer, a bed-in-a-bag set for their dorm room and toiletries as well as mentoring as they transition to the new demands of living on their own on a college campus. Two additional financial scholarships are granted in honor of Jessica’s grandparents.
“To date, 22 scholarships have been awarded. More scholarships will be awarded June 21st of this year at the 4th annual Education is Your Passport Scholarship Awards Program and Fundraiser Banquet.”
There is also The Love Bags 4 Cancer donation and delivery initiative established in honor of Jessica’s late niece Tieara McCallop. Bags filled with toiletries and personal hygiene products as well as inspirational items for women and men are taken to area hospitalized cancer patients.
“We hand deliver the bags on Valentine’s Day and Mother’s day weekend annually. They don’t know you but it’s so gratifying to see the love they feel knowing that someone loves and cares about them. It’s always a tearful experience, delivering the bags. The patients cry tears of joy and so do we. When you can get personal and get real with people, that’s when you can change some things.”
Giving Hope and Help began as a movement to bring awareness and to speak out against domestic violence. Jessica’s strives to be what she considers a “voice of the voiceless”.
“I lost a very close friend to domestic violence whom I had no idea was being abused.”
She continues to spread the message, “Don’t let shame take you to the grave”, as a result of her personal story of healing from a sexual assault and escaping an emotionally abusive relationship.
From its modest beginnings to what it’s achieved in just a few short years, Giving Hope and Help stays true to its motto: Meeting community needs and making a difference.
Jessica is making a difference without a doubt!
